Sunyoung Oh is President of Epiphany Manhattan Academy. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. She has over 15 years experience in admissions strategy and consulting, getting students into top schools. She is a board member of Friends of Thirteen/WNET (PBS in New York City).
• Graduated from Harvard magna cum laude with an A.B. degree in History and Literature and a Citation in French.
• J.D. degree from Georgetown Law.
• Extensive education-related coursework at the University of California at
Irvine and the Relay Graduate School of Education.
• B2 Level DELF in French and a B2 Level DELE in Spanish, certifying his proficiency in those two languages.

Mel Begley has over 10 years of College Essay and English tutoring experience, including experience at an education academy in Seoul, Korea. He received his degree from Harvard University in Philosophy, with a Secondary Citation in Linguistic Theory and Language. On the Harvard University Parliamentary Debate Team, he held a leadership role, helping to manage and oversee the Harvard High School Invitational, and assisting with fundraising. He has won speakership awards and debate awards at the Yale British Parliamentary Debate Tournament, Dartmouth Tournament, Brown Tournament, and more. He excelled at debate in high school as well, winning over 10 Arizona State tournaments, including the State Championship two years in a row.
Eli Epstein-Deutsch studied modern literature and drama at Yale University. He specializes in admissions consulting with over 10 years experience, with a focus on academic mentoring, essay writing, english, history, art writing & art history, business & entrepreneurship, nonprofits, and social science research.
Frank Muradov was educated at Columbia University and worked at Columbia University Admissions. He has 10 years of undergraduate and graduate admissions consulting experience, with a focus on areas such as research projects, community service volunteering, internships, academic discipline, building study habits and a higher GPA, admission strategy, the Common Application, and scholarships.
Chris Avrich is the head of our Mathematics and Computer Science departments. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from MIT, with a minor in Mathematics, and is also a graduate of Stuyvesant High School. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the Electrical Engineering honor society. Chris teaches all levels of math including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, and Multivariable Calculus, as well as Computer Science. He also helps students prepare for standardized tests such as the SHSAT, ISEE/SSAT, SAT I and II, ACT, and AMC 10/12.
Bernard Ellouk has taught in Seattle and New York for the last 8 years, teaching English composition, creative writing, and mentoring on college admissions. His students have received numerous awards in creative writing, debate and achieved admission into universities such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Caltech, MIT, Brown, Columbia, NYU and Stanford. Bernard was previously a journalist, writing for several award winning news organizations such as The Seattle Times, The Jerusalem Post and for NBC News. He currently also works in production and development at a New York documentary production company.
Nicollette Barsamian holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. She graduated from Columbia University with a BA in English Literature and minors in Modern Greek and Art History. She also graduated from Stuyvesant High School. She teaches all subjects and tests relating to English, Reading, and Writing. She also loves teaching history and editing essays.
Brigitte Lym received a Bachelor's degree in Pure Mathematics from Ewha Women's University in Korea, and Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Applied Mathematics from Queens College, NY. She has more than 20 years of experience in private tutoring, teaching in public high schools (Baemyung HS and Suji HS in Korea) and colleges (City College and Pace University in NYC). She is a qualified and passionate educator in the field of Mathematics, and has taught students of various levels and grades, taking pride in helping them excel.
Originally from Barcelona, Spain, Mercedes Blanco is certified with the Spanish Language Superior Teaching program. Mercedes studied Chemical Engineering with an MD in Environmental Engineering at University of Barcelona and University of Notre Dame. Mercedes has been teaching science and Spanish literature, language and history to high school and elementary students since 2007.
Vanessa Ehler earned her M.A. from Middlebury College in Spanish Linguistics from the campuses in Vermont, Madrid, and Guadalajara, Mexico, and her B.A. in Spanish Language from both Indiana University, Bloomington and Universidad Complutense, Madrid. She taught English as a second language in both China and Ecuador. She was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to study Mesoamerican cultures and their histories in Oaxaca, Mexico. Vanessa has tutored language to students of all ages for over ten years. She now teaches high school Spanish, yoga and fermentation.
Hobong Kim is our Art Director. He graduated from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea, and attended graduate school there as well as in NYU's Studio Art program. In Korea, he won several awards in major art competitions. He has worked on videos and paintings for exhibitions in New York and New Jersey. He currently teaches for portfolio building, and his students have received awards in several major art contests: National Gold and Silver winners and Regional Gold and Silver winners at Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the Junior Duck Stamp contest.
Jamie Lee is Assistant Director of our Art Studio, and she currently attends the School of Visual Arts. She likes to paint, sing, and play golf in her free time. She hopes to become an art therapist when she graduates, and help kids who are struggling with anxiety and depression.
